The Salt Flats are probably one of the coolest sites I have ever seen in Utah (although Zion National Park still takes the cake in my book!) While I was home for Thanksgiving Break, we decided to do a mini roadtrip for the day to take pictures at the Salt Flats because I needed some scenery photos for my photography class that I took this semester. While we were there, we took some family photos and I am so happy with how they turned out. It had rained/snowed the night before so the thin layer of water that was reflecting the mountains created such an amazing backdrop. It was definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive!

If you follow this blog you realize that I haven't posted in a very long time. This semester has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. I have had some of the highest highs of my life and some of the lowest lows I have ever experienced. I discovered a lot about myself this semester and I realized how quickly life as you know it can change. This semester I have learned how important it is to love yourself. Too often this semester I caught myself thinking 'you can be better', 'you can be smarter', 'you can work harder'. Sometimes (most times) I put too much pressure on myself. Some pressure is good, it keeps us motivated towards a goal. However, it is incredibly important to recognize the healthy line between enough and too much pressure. Through all the craziness, I am so beyond lucky to have some pretty amazing friends and an incredible boyfriend who have supported me unconditionally.
As finals approach for students everywhere, remember to love yourself. Let yourself take a study break, take time to sleep (and eat and shower), and stay positive. All you can do is your best. xoxo Shannon (The photographs in this post are from my trip to SLC over Thanksgiving break, I love the mountains!!) It's not often that Dani and I both have a large chunk of time to spend with each other. However, because we both had a long weekend, we were able to abandon work for an afternoon and visit some of Boston's most beautiful historic sites together. The Freedom Trail is one of Boston's most popular attractions. It is a trail that runs for 2.5 miles through 16 historically significant sites in the Boston area. Dani and I decided to just dedicate our afternoon to two of the sites and grab dinner after. We visited the USS Constitution as well as Bunker Hill Monument (both of which are free to the public!!). We then grabbed coffee in one of the little shops near Bunker Hill and had dinner at the Navy Yard Bistro (where we had Crème Brûlée for dessert!) The houses and apartments around Bunker Hill are incredibly beautiful (I am a sucker for gorgeous brick buildings). I begged Dani to take pictures of me throwing leaves in the air. I wanted it to look something like this. However, it ended up more like this (LOL): Not the most graceful experience (but hey, expectation vs. reality right??) All in all, it was an absolutely beautiful fall day! Dani and I are trying to take advantage of this nice weather before we are locked inside because of snow

In late June, my family and I went to Seattle, WA and Victoria, BC. While I have been to Seattle before, this was my first time visiting Victoria and it is definitely somewhere I want to visit again. We went hiking on the coast in East Sooke Park and visited the beautiful Buchart Gardens. It was pretty amazing. Here is a little video I made highlighting the trip.

Shannon I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot with beautiful Caroline, one of my closest friends from high school. We had so much fun and took advantage of the gorgeous setting light over the Salt Lake valley. After, we headed to Sugarhouse, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Salt Lake. xoxo
Shannon There is something so peaceful about watching the sunset. It is hard to describe in words. Tonight my friend said "Isn't it sad that we have to take pictures of the sunset?" as we sat on this tall rock (pictured above) at the trailhead of Mount Olympus. I have thought about that a lot since. Why exactly do we spend so much time taking pictures, editing them and posting them on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and (in my case) this blog? I love taking photos because for me, it makes me focus on the here and now. I have a real problem with thinking too much about the future. Photography makes me stop and notice the beauty that is around me in that moment. It also forces me to look at everything in a different way. Still, I understand what my friend means. Why do I feel this urge to share my photos? Why do I feel like I have to share everything on Instagram? I think that in ten+ years from now I will be grateful that I have captured all of these moments. Life is a beautiful thing and while I don't think that you need to take photos of every life event, someday you may be glad that you had those pictures of that beautiful sunset.
xoxo Shannon ps: no editing was done on these photos...that is how beautiful the light was tonight :) Yesterday was the best Sunday I have had in a really long time. My family went and explored Red Butte Gardens-it was such a beautiful day! After, we headed to my favorite Mexican restaurant, Red Iguana. I had been craving good Mexican food for months! If you are ever in the Salt Lake area, definitely check it out. It is worth the wait! After, my friend Rachel brought me to meet some of her friends from school who are in Park City over Spring Break. It was so good to see her and the view from their house was gorgeous. It is so good to be home. I am really enjoying the beautiful weather in Salt Lake!
xoxo Shannon This weekend was the perfect mix of fun and rest. On Friday night, we had our Big/Little reveal and I found out my big is Madeline! Madeline is one of the smartest, kindest, and most beautiful (inside and out!) people I have ever met. I am so honored to be her little. Then we had a mixer with another society on campus (Phi Sigma) and met up with two MIT fraternities. Saturday night Lauren and I went to the Benny Golson concert on campus and Sunday I had tea/brunch with a few of the Agora girls.
We had a great trip visiting my brother and his family. My niece is so sweet and has the cutest personality. I can't believe that the next time I see her she will probably be walking and starting to talk. I really understand the saying "they grow up too fast" in a whole new way now. I only have a few more days in SLC before I pack up and go back to Boston. Very bittersweet.
xoxo Shannon I've had so much fun the last few weeks being able to take some pictures of friends and family while I've been in SLC. Here are some of my favorites.
My family was sweet enough to save getting the tree until I got home because they know how much I love it. Tonight as we walked through the mostly empty Christmas tree lot, we came across this beauty. The worker informed us that it would be dead by Christmas day (not a good sales tactic if you ask me). So what did we do? We bought it. Sure there are some branches missing and some dead spots but it looks really bright and beautiful in our family room. Our tree doesn't smell like a tree. Good thing we have this candle (now I know what a magical frosted forest smells like).
I'm not going to lie...I miss the beautiful mountains of Utah. There is just something so amazing about watching the first snowfall high in the mountains and getting so excited for the coming ski season. But, I am so lucky to go to a school that is on a lake. And the view from here is pretty dang awesome. I was inside my room studying for my Economics midterm when my friend texted me and told me to go check out the sunset. I ran outside and was lucky enough to catch the end of it. Best study break ever.
